Suheil Al-Mazrouei Emphasizes the Need to Enhance Supply Chain Resilience and Diversify Routes
Amidst the growing geopolitical challenges affecting global trade, remarks by His Excellency Suheil Mohamed Al-Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, highlight the importance of enhancing supply chain resilience and diversifying routes. This comes as part of his participation in the recently held Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg, where Al-Mazrouei pointed to the urgent need for international cooperation to ensure the security of supply chains in changing circumstances.
Geopolitical Changes and Their Impact on Global Trade
His Excellency Al-Mazrouei emphasized that rapid changes in the geopolitical landscape, especially in vital maritime corridors, are placing new pressures on the global trading system. He affirmed that countries must commit to ensuring the security of the waterways connecting different nations and to enhancing supply chain resilience. He also highlighted the threats facing these corridors, which necessitate collective international efforts to protect freedom of navigation.
Emphasis on International Cooperation
In his address during the forum’s opening session, Al-Mazrouei stated that recent events, such as Iran‘s closure of the Strait of Hormuz and threats to commercial vessels, represent significant challenges to supply chain resilience and have a tangible impact on global economic stability. He called for necessary international coordination to address these challenges and stressed the importance of securing multiple supply lines. “Ignoring these practices places the global economy in constant danger,” he added.
The UAE’s Vision for Overcoming Challenges
Al-Mazrouei expressed the proactive vision of the United Arab Emirates in building an integrated infrastructure that enhances the country’s ability to adapt to these challenges. He reviewed current projects, such as the national railway network, which spans over 900 kilometers and connects ports along various coasts, contributing to improved cargo transport efficiency. In his efforts to enhance regional integration, he pointed to the rail link project with Oman as an important strategic step.
Strategic Meetings to Enhance Cooperation
On the sidelines of the forum, Al-Mazrouei held meetings with ministers from other countries, including the Russian Minister of Transport and the Uzbek Minister of Transport, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics. The UAE expressed its readiness to develop strategic partnerships to improve regional and international connectivity, aiming for sustainable development in this vital sector.
The UAE continues to strengthen its position as a key hub in global trade by investing in resilient infrastructure, which contributes to improving supply chain resilience and diversifying routes, urging all countries not to underestimate this vital issue for the safety of the global economy.
