In an atmosphere filled with excitement and thrilling competition, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum witnessed the conclusion of the Al Marmoom Festival, one of the most significant events in the world of camel racing. This festival featured competitions for the symbols of young camels belonging to tribal owners, attracting a large turnout of participants and spectators. A total of 20 races were organized over a distance of 5 kilometers, with more than 2,000 camels participating in both the morning and evening sessions, highlighting the event’s importance in promoting Emirati cultural heritage.

Competition Results

The competitions for the symbols of young camels took place at the festival, with “Al Jazeera,” trained by Naji Misfer Saleh Al Raziq Al Ajmi, winning the open young she-camels cup after achieving a time of 7:24:0 minutes, earning a cash prize of 1.5 million dirhams. Meanwhile, “Qumari,” from the farm of Rashid Saeed Mohammed Al Kamda, topped the open young male camels race with a time of 7:21:9 minutes, also winning the male camels gun and one million dirhams.

In the local category, “Al Tayara,” owned by Saeed Jaber Abdullah Mohammed, came in first place in the local young she-camels cup, recording a time of 7:17:4 minutes, while “Haflan,” owned by Ahmed Shaheen Khalfan Al Mazrouei, won the local young male camels gun with a time of 7:14:1 minutes. Additionally, “Hams,” owned by Mohammed Sultan Matar Murkhan Al Kutbi, achieved another milestone by winning the young she-camels cup for production, clocking in at 7:14:7 minutes.

Crowning the Winners

A ceremony was held to crown the winners of the young camels and young male camels symbols in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum, who honored the winners of the Al Marmoom finale alongside several prominent figures. The achievements of the participants in this festival underscore the importance of supporting camel racing in the UAE, as these events continue to embody the history and culture of Emirati society.

Upcoming Yidha Competitions

Continuing the competitions, the Dubai Camel Racing Club is preparing for the Yidha races for camels belonging to tribal owners, which will take place on Wednesday and are part of the concluding celebrations for the young camels season. The racing schedule will be adjusted to shift the evening races to the morning, providing more excitement for participants and fans. The first six races will be dedicated to the symbols, featuring enticing cash prizes that reflect the level of competition expected in the Yidha categories.

The conclusion of the Al Marmoom Festival remains a landmark event in the UAE’s calendar of heritage activities, embodying pride and appreciation for the country’s cultural and sporting heritage, supported by the wise leadership’s commitment to developing traditional sports.
