Dubai Students Engage in AI and Independent Learning Discussions

100 Participants in “Student Dialogues” in Dubai Discuss Artificial Intelligence and Independent Learning

In a significant event reflecting the future of education, more than 100 students from various private schools in Dubai took part in the “Student Dialogues” initiative. Organized collaboratively by the Dubai Student Council in partnership with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and the Roads and Transport Authority, this gathering focused on important topics like artificial intelligence and independent learning. The discussions served as a platform for students to voice their opinions and suggest actionable ideas related to shaping “the school of the future.”

The Objectives of the Student Dialogues

The “Student Dialogues” initiative aligns with Dubai’s strategic education vision for 2033, which places the learner at the center of the educational framework. By empowering students to actively participate in shaping their learning environments, this initiative encourages them to envision future educational solutions. The discussions ranged across crucial areas such as the responsible use of artificial intelligence, enhancing self-directed learning skills, and the overall quality of life and mental well-being of students.

Engagement and Workshop Highlights

The event featured a series of interactive workshops and dialogue sessions led by members of the Dubai Student Council. These discussions addressed four main themes: responsible usage of artificial intelligence, self-learning enhancement, future pathways for learners, and health and wellness. The aim was to convert students’ daily experiences in schools into realistic educational policies that can improve their learning environment and give them a greater role in shaping the future of education within the emirate.

Student Empowerment and Future-Proofing Education

Amir Al Madani, the Director of Student Empowerment at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, emphasized that the initiative embodies the belief that students are genuine partners in the learning journey. He highlighted that the “Student Dialogues” provide a platform where students can present their ideas and challenges, paving the way for practical solutions that enhance their educational experience and equip them with the skills needed for a rapidly changing world.

Commitment to Future Educational Needs

The Roads and Transport Authority also highlighted its commitment to fostering creativity and innovation among students. By hosting the initiative at the Transportation Research and Innovations Partnership (TRIP) at Birmingham University Dubai, the authority aims to cultivate a mindset that allows students to tackle future challenges responsibly, particularly around technology, artificial intelligence, and independent learning.

Participants were presented with challenges designed to encourage innovative solutions regarding safety around school areas and improving student drop-off and pick-up procedures. The focus extended to developing ideas that would nurture responsibility among young drivers and improve traffic safety.

The discussions illustrated ways to create supportive school environments that promote independent learning through clear pathways for managing personal education. Additionally, the emphasis was on developing frameworks that regulate the responsible use of artificial intelligence while addressing academic integrity and equitable access to digital tools. Clear policies ensuring the ethical and safe use of these technologies in schools were deemed essential by the participants.

Throughout the sessions, a hands-on approach was adopted—starting from identifying priorities and challenges, through to designing solutions and prototypes, and finally testing their feasibility for execution and scalability in school settings. By the end of the event, the students presented their vision for the future of education in Dubai, including a range of actionable proposals and developmental frameworks.

This initiative is part of the broader mission of the Dubai Student Council, established this academic year under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The council aims to solidify student participation in shaping educational policies, fostering a more flexible, innovative, and inclusive learning environment.

The council, consisting of 16 students from grades 9 to 12, represents various approved curricula in Dubai. It serves as an institutional platform reflecting the aspirations of around 400,000 students within the private education system, contributing significantly to shaping the future landscape of education in the emirate.
