Sharjah Wheat Farm Donates 20 Tons of Organic Seeds

The wheat farm in Sharjah has undertaken a significant initiative by distributing 20 tons of organic seeds to farmers. This endeavor aims to promote sustainable agriculture and reinforce local farming practices in the region. With this distribution, the wheat farm is not only providing essential resources to enhance crop yields but also supporting the vision of sustainable development within the agricultural sector in Sharjah.

Mohammed Obaid Al-Tunaji, Director of the Agriculture and Livestock Department in the Central Region, announced the launch of the fourth phase of the initiative to distribute non-GMO wheat seeds to farmers and homeowners. This initiative, organized by the department, will run for a week at the wheat farm. This phase includes the distribution of 20 tons of organic seeds, as part of a grant from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

In exclusive statements to “Sharjah 24,” Al-Tunaji confirmed that this season will see the distribution of 20 tons of non-GMO organic seeds, targeting approximately 500 farmers. He clarified that the initiative is not limited to distributing seeds to farmers; it also includes a separate initiative to distribute seeds to homeowners in smaller quantities.

Innovative Distribution Program

Al-Tunaji explained that the department has adopted a distribution program this season based on land area, with quantities of 20, 10, and 5 kilograms. Additionally, there is a special initiative for homeowners that includes smaller quantities ranging from one kilogram to half a kilogram, aimed at promoting the culture of community gardening. This step seeks to train farmers in modern agricultural methods and the use of techniques that enhance production in line with the climatic conditions in the UAE.

Supporting Farmers and Enhancing Agriculture

The Director of the Agriculture and Livestock Department in the Central Region pointed out that the initiative reflects the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in supporting and empowering farmers, encouraging them to expand wheat cultivation. He noted that interest in this crop is increasing year by year, thanks to significant support and ongoing initiatives. The distribution of 20 tons of organic seeds is a step towards improving food security and enhancing self-sufficiency in the region.

In this context, the initiative aims to provide a suitable agricultural environment, helping to ensure the sustainability of traditional agriculture in Sharjah, where farmers can benefit from improved seed materials. This type of support directly contributes to increased productivity and improved crop quality, positively impacting the community and the local economy.
