University of Sharjah Launches Youth Award for Scientific Research and Innovation
In an inspiring move to foster a culture of scientific research and empower young minds, the University of Sharjah has unveiled the “Youth Award for Scientific Research and Innovation.” Under the slogan “With Youth, We Can,” this initiative was announced during a ceremony organized by the university’s Community Relations Division for Scientific Research. The event highlighted the award’s objectives, categories, and its role in promoting scientific research and innovation while empowering the youth within the university.
Empowering the Next Generation
During the launch event, Professor Essam Al-Din Ajami, the Director of the University of Sharjah, emphasized that the “Youth Award for Scientific Research and Innovation” marks a significant strategic milestone in the university’s journey toward embedding a culture of research and innovation. He expressed the university’s commitment to empowering youth and investing in their creative potential, stating that “youth are the cornerstone of building the future.” Professor Al-Din Ajami further explained that providing a stimulating academic environment is vital for unleashing youthful research capabilities and transforming innovative ideas into impactful scientific projects. He noted that the award will encourage students to engage early in scientific inquiry, enhance their critical thinking and innovation skills, and foster productive collaborations with academic institutions and the industrial sector, ultimately contributing to sustainable development in the UAE.

Professor Moamer Baltyab, the Deputy Director for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, pointed out that the award serves as a crucial platform to motivate students toward innovation and participation in meaningful research initiatives that address global challenges. He highlighted that supporting innovative research projects reinforces the university’s role in establishing a comprehensive research and innovation ecosystem both locally and globally. The primary aim of the award is to support scientific research and innovation, enabling youth to emerge as leaders in these fields on both local and international stages. Additionally, the initiative is designed to stimulate young researchers’ commitment to scientific inquiry and encourage them to continue their research journeys.
Categories and Opportunities
The award encompasses two main categories: Innovative Projects and Innovative Ideas, allowing students to present their creative concepts and translate them into practical research projects. Targeting undergraduate students at the University of Sharjah, this initiative aims to serve as a platform for fostering innovation and academic excellence among the youth. Applications for the award will be open starting January next year, presenting a unique opportunity for budding researchers.

The launch event was attended by numerous dignitaries and representatives from supporting organizations, including Dr. Abdul Aziz Saeed Al-Mehiri, Head of the Board of Trustees at University Hospital Sharjah, and other influential figures in the academic and business sectors. The university also took the opportunity to honor strategic partners and community supporters of the award, which included University Hospital Sharjah, Sharjah National Oil Corporation, Huawei, the Emirates Research and Studies Center, the Federal Youth Authority, and the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), recognizing their invaluable contributions to the advancement of research, innovation, and youth empowerment.
