The cultural landscape of Sharjah is set to flourish with the announcement that the ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has approved a budget of 747,000 dirhams for the upcoming 19th season of the theatrical festival, starting in October 2026. This decision underscores His Highness’s unwavering support for the arts and his commitment to fostering sustainable cultural practices within the community. This investment in the performing arts highlights the vital role that theater plays in enriching cultural dialogue and engagement among the people of the UAE.
Commitment to Cultural Development
The Department of Culture in Sharjah, alongside the Sharjah Theater Association, has expressed appreciation for His Highness’s generous allocation for the theatrical season. Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, the Head of the Department of Culture, emphasized that both the theater and its practitioners receive significant support from the Ruler. This financial and moral backing aims to establish a strong foundation for the arts in Sharjah and across the UAE.
Al Owais remarked, “This initiative is one of the blessings from His Highness that serves various cultural domains. Such support fosters an environment where artistic talent can flourish.” The allocated budget is expected to create a continuous theatrical presence, engaging audiences and inspiring artists and performers to elevate their craft through innovative storytelling and production skills.
Cultivating Audience Engagement
