Originally founded in 1925 by Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the former ruler of Sharjah, the library was first named “Al Qasimiah Library.” Over the years, the library has received significant attention from successive rulers of Sharjah, shifting locations several times until 2011. It was then that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the new building of the Sharjah Public Library at the Cultural Palace Square in the Al Abaars area.

Today, the Sharjah Public Library operates six strategically located branches throughout the emirate, accommodating the population’s distribution. These include the main branch in Al Abaars, as well as the Khorfakkan, Diba Al-Hisn, Wadi Al-Hilo, Al-Dhaid, and Kalba public libraries. Notably, all branches offer free access to reading materials for individuals of all ages and nationalities, welcoming over 200,000 visitors annually.
