The General Command of Sharjah Police has caught a motorist who was driving while using an umbrella that blocked his field of vision on a public road, in a serious traffic violation that posed a direct danger to his life and to the lives of other road users. The force said the behaviour reduced the driver’s ability to monitor the road and respond to sudden situations, increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents.
A dangerous practice under traffic law
Sharjah Police said the act is among the hazardous practices that affect a driver’s ability to drive safely and react to unexpected situations. It falls under Article (1) of the Traffic Law, which states that driving a vehicle in a manner that exposes the driver’s life, or the lives, safety, or security of others, to danger, or in a way that may cause damage to public or private property, is an offence.
The penalty is a fine of AED 2,000, 23 traffic points, and the impoundment of the vehicle for 60 days.
Warning on anything that obstructs vision
The General Command of Sharjah Police stressed that using any means that obstructs visibility while driving is among the most dangerous traffic practices, because it deprives the driver of the safe visibility needed to operate the vehicle and puts lives and property at risk.
It emphasised that road safety begins with drivers complying with regulations and instructions, and refraining from anything that could affect driving efficiency.
Call for responsibility from motorists
Sharjah Police urged all drivers to act responsibly, follow traffic rules, and avoid using any tools or objects that hinder visibility or affect their ability to drive safely. It also affirmed that it will continue its efforts to monitor and apprehend dangerous driving behaviours, in order to help protect lives and property and strengthen the safety and security of road users.
