The Municipality of Sharjah has recently announced a significant milestone in its commitment to innovative solutions. The municipal body has secured intellectual property rights for its cutting-edge project, the “Dam Pump”. This innovative initiative, developed by the municipal team, utilises the best global practices, leveraging the municipality’s resources efficiently and at minimal costs. Its primary purpose is to enhance infrastructure services, effectively tackling emergency situations such as rainwater accumulation and flooding.
Enhancing Emergency Response Capabilities
The Dam Pump has been meticulously designed to excel in various emergency scenarios, showcasing operational flexibility and rapid response capabilities when dealing with water accumulation. Furthermore, it is built for accessibility, allowing it to reach challenging and affected areas during adverse weather conditions. This innovation significantly boosts the city’s readiness and efficiency in responding to emergencies.
A Testament to Team Excellence
According to His Excellency Obaid Said Al-Tuniji, Director-General of the Municipality of Sharjah, the Dam Pump project enhances the municipality’s ability to manage adverse weather conditions effectively. He remarked, “This project plays a vital role in extracting water accumulation during rainfall, thereby improving operational efficiency and minimising infrastructure damage.” He emphasised the project as a reflection of the municipality’s dedication to training distinguished human resources and developing innovative engineering and technical solutions, which are crucial for maintaining infrastructure sustainability and protecting lives and property.
Technological Advancements and Cost Efficiency
Dr Khalifa bin Hada Al-Suwaidi, Director of Technical Services at the Municipality of Sharjah, highlighted that obtaining intellectual property rights for this project stemmed from the diligent efforts of a remarkable team. They executed the project with the utmost efficiency and quality, addressing the challenges posed by rainfall and climatic fluctuations that could lead to increased water levels in certain areas and dams.
The Dam Pump project involved several enhancements, including the modification and reinforcement of the pump’s base, adjustments to the fuel system, and the installation of comprehensive safety features. These improvements ensure safe and efficient operation while optimising the performance of both the vehicle and pump in the field. All modifications and logistical arrangements were executed using the municipal team’s resources, eliminating the necessity for external procurement, thereby maximising available resources and minimising project costs. This approach also facilitated the acquisition of essential technical expertise for future developments.
Innovative Vehicle Design
A crucial component of the project is a vehicle equipped with a high-efficiency mobile pump designed specifically for managing dam water. This pump boasts a capacity of 1,800 cubic metres per hour and has been developed in response to previous operational challenges, including the difficulty of installing and lifting the suction line and the requirement for auxiliary lifting equipment. The design integrates a hydraulic system for lowering and raising the suction line, reducing reliance on cranes and additional machinery. Moreover, the vehicle features several independent access points to allow for easy inspection, maintenance, and repairs on-site, which enhances equipment readiness while reducing downtime and improving operational efficiency during emergency rain events.
