In a significant initiative to improve public health standards, the Sharjah Municipality has issued a remarkable 180,254 medical fitness certificates during the first half of 2026. Over the same period, approximately 240,000 individuals visited various medical fitness centres across the emirate to access essential health services. These centres play a crucial role in enhancing individual health and elevating wellness standards within the Sharjah community.
Comprehensive Health Services Offered
Dr Aml Al Shamsi, Director of Public Health Services at Sharjah Municipality, highlighted that the medical fitness centres deliver a diverse range of health services adhering to the highest available standards. This aligns with the municipality’s strategy to enhance the foundations of quality of life and promote sustainable public health in Sharjah.
Al Shamsi noted that the services stem from ongoing efforts to improve and develop health offerings, ensuring the use of cutting-edge technologies and equipment in radiology, laboratory work, electronic connectivity, and archiving. Continuous updates to systems and equipment are also part of this commitment, ensuring rapid processing of transactions and enhanced capacity in the medical fitness centres.
Issuance of 77,251 Professional Health Cards
In the first half of the year, the municipality also issued 77,251 professional health cards for employees working in food and health establishments. Al Shamsi emphasised that these cards are a mandatory health requirement designed to ensure the fitness of employees to perform their roles and to guarantee the safety of services provided to the public. The municipality consistently monitors the validity of these cards through inspections conducted by its regulators in relevant facilities.
17 Centres Across Sharjah and Beyond
The municipality oversees 17 medical fitness centres strategically located throughout the city, the eastern region, and the central region. This geographic distribution ensures that residents can easily access health services in an efficient manner. The centres are equipped to conduct examinations within a brisk 30 minutes, and recipients can expect to receive their medical fitness certificates via text message within four working hours.
These centres provide various services, including the issuance of medical fitness certificates for residency, employment, study, and professional health cards, alongside vaccinations against hepatitis.
Emergency Testing and Mobile Services
Dr Aml Al Shamsi added that the service framework includes additional features such as urgent testing and home care services, as well as mobile services offered to companies and factories. These initiatives are designed to efficiently meet client needs and enhance their experience, aligning with the municipality’s vision to deliver advanced and sustainable health services.
