In a significant achievement, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage has received official accreditation from the National Qualification Center under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the United Arab Emirates for its academic program titled “Diploma in Business Management for Cultural and Museum Institutions.” This marks the first professional program of its kind in the nation and the region, reflecting the rapid transformations in the management of museums and cultural centers. The diploma aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in these evolving sectors.
A Testament to Future Cultural Education
In this context, Dr. Abdulaziz Muslim, the President of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, emphasized that the national accreditation represents a vote of confidence in the institute’s ability to develop quality educational paths that supply the cultural sector with qualified professionals who blend vision with skill. He stated, “This diploma does not exist in isolation from a comprehensive vision adopted by the institute; rather, it is part of a national project to build competencies capable of advancing cultural and museum institutions, whether in management, promotion, or innovation.” He further asserted that preserving heritage is not limited to documentation but also encompasses its management through modern methods that keep it alive and impactful in community life.
Future Directions and New Qualifications
Dr. Khalid Al-Shihhi, the academic director of the institute, noted that this accreditation forms a foundational pillar in a comprehensive educational strategy. He mentioned, “We have prepared a curriculum that aligns with the best global practices, focusing on current topics such as digital transformation and audience diversity. We will soon launch diplomas in popular culture and urban heritage qualifications as part of our efforts to expand specialization fields and prepare personnel contributing to the UAE’s sustainable cultural development.”
Four Specialized Tracks Over Two Years
The program spans two academic years, encompassing four semesters and covering four primary tracks: strategic planning for cultural institutions and museums, management of festivals and events, digital cultural marketing, and innovation in visitor experiences. This diploma combines theoretical and practical components through partnerships with various museums, cultural centers, and major festivals, enabling students to experience the actual work environment, acquire practical skills, and build specialized professional networks.
Internal Integration and Academic Professionalism
The accreditation of this program is the result of a collaborative effort among different departments and centers within the institute to establish the academic framework, develop training content, and meet the requirements and standards for national accreditation. This achievement showcases the institute’s commitment to qualifying national leaders who can preserve both the tangible and intangible aspects of Emirati heritage, utilizing the latest global methodologies.
