Sharjah Government Communication Award Invites Innovators to Compete

Sharjah 24:

The Sharjah Government Communication Award, organised by the Sharjah Media Office, is now inviting participants to compete for recognition in their innovative use of media and digital platforms to disseminate knowledge, raise awareness of societal issues, and transform content into a powerful tool for positive change.

A Celebration of Media Excellence

In its 13th edition, the award features two distinct categories designed to honour these exceptional efforts: “Best Media and Communication Content,” which falls under the government entities, international organisations, and private sector awards; and “Digital Content Change Makers,” part of the individual awards. These categories reflect the diverse practices in media and digital communication and their growing significance in fostering public awareness and engagement.

Participants are encouraged to submit their applications via the award’s official website, where they can find details regarding the categories, application requirements, evaluation criteria, and submission procedures. The deadline for submissions is set for 22 September.

Adapting to Digital Content Transformations

His Excellency Tariq Saeed Alai, Director General of the Sharjah Media Office, emphasised the award’s commitment to enhancing the pivotal role of purposeful media in building awareness and enriching dialogues around societal challenges. He stated, “We aim to highlight experiences that combine content quality, clarity of message, innovation in presentation, and the ability to create measurable impact, thereby uplifting media and communication practices and encouraging the production of content more aligned with public interests and community priorities.”

Alai noted that dedicating a category to change-makers showcases the rapid transformations in the content industry and the expanding influence of digital platforms. It also offers a space to recognise individual experiences that leverage these platforms to disseminate knowledge, reinforce positive values, and foster a digitally engaged community focused on dialogue.

Best Practices for Societal Awareness

The “Best Media and Communication Content” category targets local, regional, and international governmental entities, as well as international and regional organisations and private sector institutions that have produced noteworthy media content through campaigns or initiatives that enhance public awareness of significant issues and motivate audience engagement.

This category assesses entries based on the strength of the idea and quality of execution within a clear communicative framework serving defined objectives, regardless of whether they are presented through traditional media, digital platforms, audiovisual programmes, or podcasts, among other media formats. Topics span social, economic, environmental, cultural, and health issues, with an emphasis on the content’s ability to support constructive dialogue, broaden participation, and generate tangible impact on audiences.

Transformative Power of Digital Content

Within the individual awards, the “Digital Content Change Makers” category highlights individual experiences that successfully utilise digital platforms and social media to disseminate knowledge while embedding positive values and cultural identity. This category invites creative approaches that merge quality, innovation, and meaningful messaging.

It is divided into two subcategories: “Best Digital Change Maker Under 18” and “Best Digital Change Maker Over 18,” allowing for the participation of young talents and individuals from various age groups. Entries can take diverse forms, including videos, purpose-driven digital series, educational and awareness initiatives, and projects that have successfully cultivated positive interactive communities.

Quality Experiences with Tangible Impact

This year’s Sharjah Government Communication Award comprises 23 categories across five main sectors, including awards for government entities, international organisations, the private sector, individual awards, creative competition in smart communication, jury awards, and partner awards.

By offering a variety of categories, the award creates an opportunity for quality experiences and practices that utilise media, communication, and digital platforms to serve priority issues. It allows entities and individuals to showcase models capable of driving tangible impact, enriching communication practices, and expanding their influence within the community.
