Sharjah 24 – Rim Al-Raisi:
On Thursday morning, the Sharjah Fisheries Authority officially inaugurated the Council of the Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen, located in the Jubail Market of Sharjah. This gathering space aims to connect fishermen and serve as a platform for exchanging marine knowledge and expertise across generations, ultimately contributing to the preservation and enhancement of the fishing profession within the community.
Preserving Maritime Heritage
Abdullah Ali Al-Mahmoud, Director of the Sharjah Fisheries Authority, highlighted that the council’s primary goal is to introduce younger generations to the fishing profession and its associated rich maritime traditions. This initiative seeks to evoke the efforts of previous generations and the challenges they faced, thereby strengthening their connection to the region’s marine heritage.
Support and Collaboration
Al-Mahmoud expressed deep appreciation for the support extended by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, towards fishermen and their associations. He also commended the collaboration of various entities and organisations that contributed to the establishment of the council, as well as the dedicated efforts of the society’s members in bringing this project to fruition.
A Bridge for Generations
The council represents a continuation of the authentic Emirati councils linked to the lives of seafaring communities through generations. These forums have historically facilitated the sharing of knowledge and experiences while strengthening bonds among fishermen. The council thus reaffirms the enduring presence of this cultural legacy, acting as a bridge that connects the past with the present and future of the fishing profession and its traditions.
