The Sharjah Academy for Educational Excellence has announced the launch of eight new postgraduate programmes designed to enhance skills and knowledge in the fields of special educational needs and early childhood education. This initiative is part of the academy’s commitment to expanding its specialised academic offerings and providing educators with opportunities for professional growth.
Flexible and Comprehensive Learning Options
The new programmes include four distinct academic specialisations offered through eight separate tracks, available in both Arabic and English. This bilingual approach aims to provide flexible educational options for teaching professionals keen to advance their expertise.
According to Dr. Mohdah Yahya Al Hashimi, President of the Sharjah Academy for Educational Excellence, “These programmes are a continuation of the steadfast vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. They place education and human development at the centre of our progress, embodying the Emirate of Sharjah’s approach to creating an integrated educational system that invests in specialised competencies.”
Focus Areas of the New Programmes
The newly introduced programmes are designed to address significant needs within the educational field, notably in early childhood education and special educational needs. The initiative aims to enhance professional development pathways for educators working in high-priority sectors of education.
Dr. Al Hashimi highlighted that the programmes aim to convert specialised knowledge into educational practices that create significant impacts within educational environments. “Investing in early childhood education lays the foundation for learning and growth from the earliest years,” she noted.
Programme Details
The new academic offerings comprise: a Graduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs, a Master’s in Educational Studies in Special Educational Needs, a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education, and a Master’s in Educational Studies in Early Childhood Education. Each of these will be available in both Arabic and English.
The Graduate Diploma lasts for one academic year and encompasses 24 accredited hours, combining flexible learning formats alongside field training opportunities under the guidance of experienced faculty. It focuses on understanding learning diversity and designing evidence-based interventions for diverse learning needs.
Dual Qualification Opportunity
Students enrolled in the English language track will have the chance to participate in an optional dual qualification path in partnership with the University of Exeter. This collaboration enriches their academic experience by providing the opportunity to obtain separate qualifications from both institutions, thereby enhancing their career prospects.
Participation in this pathway requires meeting eligibility and admission conditions set by the University of Exeter.
Early Childhood Education Curriculum
The early childhood education programme also features a Graduate Diploma that spans one academic year. This programme emphasises flexible learning in conjunction with field application, focusing on child development, curriculum design, and educational assessment.
Graduates who meet admission requirements will have the opportunity to continue their academic journey with a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, extending over an additional two years.
Future Career Paths
The eight new programmes open various professional avenues for graduates, including roles in teaching, curriculum development, and leadership within the fields of early childhood education and special educational needs.
The Sharjah Academy is now accepting applications for all programmes. Interested candidates can find detailed information about the programmes, admission requirements, and registration procedures on the academy’s official website.
