New Board of Directors for the Aquatic Sports Federation Elected Today
Today, the electoral general assembly of the Aquatic Sports Federation is being held to elect a new board of directors, whose term will extend from 2024 to 2028. This event marks a crucial step after three and a half years of the federation being managed by a temporary committee. The presence of representatives from member clubs is an integral part of the electoral process, highlighting the significance of this moment in the federation’s history.
Preparations for the Elections
Intensive preparations have been made to host the board elections, with the election committee approving the final list of candidates. Abdullah Mohammed Salem Al-Wohaibi is running unopposed for the position of Chairman, while four candidates are competing for three council membership seats: Abdullah Mubarak Obaid Al-Zahmi, Mohammed Abdullah Abu Shehab Al-Suwaidi, Abdul Wahid Mahmoud Abdullah Ismail, and Saeed Hamad Obaid Al-Ketbi. In an important step toward enhancing women’s representation, Sheikha Mohammed Obaid Al-Zaabi is contesting for the women’s seat, which is reserved for a female member on the council.
New Constitution
According to the new constitution, only five members out of a total of seven will be elected, including the chairman. The elected chairman will have the right to appoint two additional members to complete the board for the 2024–2028 term. This change represents an enhancement of transparency and flexibility within the federation, allowing it to respond swiftly to the needs and opinions of member clubs.
Date and Location of the Elections
The registration process for club representatives will begin at 4:30 PM, followed by the electoral process at 5:30 PM. The elections will be held at the Olympic Committee headquarters in Dubai, making it an important event for all stakeholders involved.
Future of the Aquatic Sports Federation
These elections come at a time when the aquatic sports sector is experiencing significant expansion, with an increase in local and international competitions, as well as a rise in participants and technical programs. Therefore, the new council elected today is expected to play a key role in leading a comprehensive development phase under the new laws regulating operations and governance in sports federations.
