In a significant move aimed at enhancing the lives of children with special needs and their families, the Ministry of Family has launched a national survey. This effort seeks input from parents of children with disabilities aged from birth to 18 years across the UAE, with the goal of refining the national strategy for special needs support. The survey is designed to ensure that the services and assistance provided are grounded in the authentic needs of these children and their families.
Enhancing Inclusivity Through Parental Insights
The Ministry emphasizes that the survey represents a vital step towards fostering a more inclusive future for individuals with special needs. By soliciting feedback from parents, the initiative allows families to actively participate in shaping policies and programs that directly impact their children’s lives. This inclusive approach aims to guarantee that high-quality support is accessible from early childhood through to the age of eighteen.
Extensive Reach and Data Utilization
Through its digital platforms, the Ministry aims to engage a broad audience of targeted parents. Collecting comprehensive data is crucial for refining the support systems available to children with special needs. These efforts are directed towards enhancing service quality for families, thereby contributing to the overall well-being of children with disabilities across the nation.
Collaboration with Early Childhood Authorities
The survey is being conducted in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, focusing on the experiences of parents who have children with developmental delays or disabilities. It covers a range of essential topics, including awareness and support, testing and diagnosis, community involvement, social stigma, inclusion, as well as the accessibility and quality of early intervention services. Other topics include costs, insurance, childcare, educational experiences, technology, and demographic data, ensuring a comprehensive view of current service efficiency.
Precision in Data Collection
Participants in the survey will provide detailed information regarding both the family and the specific child indicated at the outset of the questionnaire. This specific approach ensures data accuracy, facilitating smoother analysis. Should multiple children with special needs be involved, parents are encouraged to select the youngest child for the responses.
It should be noted that the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority previously conducted a similar survey in 2021, which focused solely on parents in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The current nationwide survey aims to capture broader data, enriching the experiences of children with special needs, alongside their families and the surrounding community.
By launching this national survey, the Ministry of Family underscores its commitment to fostering a supportive environment where the voices of families are heard and acted upon, ultimately aiming to enhance the quality of life for children with special needs and their families throughout the UAE.
