Mohammed Bin Rashid and UNESCO Director Discuss Visionary Collaboration

In a significant meeting yesterday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, engaged with Dr. Khaled Anani, the Director-General of UNESCO. This meeting, held in the presence of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, coincided with the second day of the 2026 World Government Summit. The discussions focused on enhancing collaborative efforts between the UAE and UNESCO, particularly in areas such as heritage conservation, biodiversity protection, and advancing education as a universal right.

Key Attendees at the Meeting

The meeting also included several notable figures, such as Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the National Olympic Committee; and Sheikh Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Other esteemed attendees included Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Government Summit. Additionally, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, was present.

Strengthening Cooperation Across Key Areas

During the discussions, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid emphasized the importance of fostering strong partnerships with UNESCO. The focus areas included the preservation of global heritage, the safeguarding of biodiversity, and the responsible integration of artificial intelligence. Special attention was also given to the right to quality education, particularly for communities facing severe economic challenges due to security or political instability, and for vulnerable populations.

UNESCO’s Recognition of the UAE’s Contributions

Dr. Anani acknowledged the significant role of the UAE in advancing UNESCO’s regional and global objectives. He praised the country’s pioneering initiatives aimed at empowering individuals through science, knowledge, and culture, recognizing these elements as essential for human progress. The Director-General expressed his commitment to expanding bilateral relations, emphasizing the need for continuous collaboration in various projects that protect global heritage.
