In a remarkable achievement that embodies the spirit of challenge and ambition, Egyptian student Mayar Mohamed Ragab Othman has been crowned the champion of the 10th edition of the “Arab Reading Challenge.” Among more than 17 million students from 30,000 schools, Mayar shines brightly in the realm of culture and reading, clearly reflecting the significant impact of this initiative aimed at promoting a reading culture in the Arab world.
Mayar Othman’s Crowning
The Arab Reading Challenge crowned student Mayar Mohamed Ragab Othman as the champion of its 10th edition at the Ministry of Education in the Arab Republic of Egypt, out of 17,616,289 participating students representing 30,589 schools under the supervision of 41,505 supervisors.
Mayar, a fifth-grade student at the Martyr Hamdi Sharabi Primary School in Kafr Al-Sheikh, was awarded the title during the closing ceremony of the 10th edition of the Arab Reading Challenge, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The event was attended by Abdulbaset Mohamed Al-Marzouqi, Deputy Head of Mission at the UAE Embassy, and Dr. Akram Hassan, Advisor to the Minister of Education and Technical Education for Presidential Initiatives. The ceremony also featured Dr. Fawzan Al-Khaldi, Director of Programs and Initiatives at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, along with several officials, educators concerned with cultural affairs, and parents of the participating students in the final competition.
Honoring the Outstanding
During the ceremony, Dalia Hassanain Ahmed from Qalyubia was honored for receiving the title of “Outstanding Supervisor,” and the Martyr Mahmoud Al-Maghrabi Primary School from Kafr Al-Sheikh was recognized as the “Outstanding School.”
In the category for people of determination, which saw participation from 37,258 students, three students advanced to the final competition, with the first place awarded to Mohamed Abdeljawad Abdelnabi Najdi, a 10th-grade student at Al-Noor School for the Blind in the Beheira region.
Continued Success
Mohamed Abdel-Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, affirmed that the Arab Reading Challenge has made significant contributions over its 10 editions in enriching the cultural landscape in the Arab world, reflecting the trust in the ability of new generations to build a knowledge-based future.
He stated, “The Egyptian participation of over 17.6 million students continues the distinguished Egyptian presence in all editions of the challenge, reflecting both official and public interest in reading incentives.” Abdel-Latif congratulated the winners and their families, emphasizing the importance of education in building cultural awareness.
The Challenge’s Journey Towards Record Numbers
The Arab Reading Challenge announced that the number of participants in the 10th edition reached 40,286,428 students from 60 countries, representing a qualitative increase and an indicator of the new generations’ desire to enhance their knowledge through reading.
The Arab Reading Challenge, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to make reading an essential part of students’ lives and deepen their understanding of the Arabic language. It also seeks to enhance creative thinking skills and build students’ personalities through exposure to various cultures and values.
