The Louvre Abu Dhabi has launched its exciting project “Journey Through Time,” which offers a unique virtual experience that allows visitors to explore historical worlds across time. Through this journey, the Louvre Abu Dhabi provides an innovative platform for understanding how global cultures have formed and evolved. This initiative reflects the museum’s commitment to enhancing art and cultural heritage in new ways, making “Journey Through Time” an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
Exceptional Experience Through Time
The “Journey Through Time” project offers a 12-month virtual reality experience in the museum’s lower gallery. This experience utilizes advanced technology that enables a group of 10 visitors to navigate freely through vibrant digital environments, without the need for screens or controllers. The journey lasts 25 minutes and provides visitors with the opportunity to explore historical and artistic horizons across the ages.
Interacting with History and Art
The journey includes narrated guidance through cinematic storytelling, allowing participants to travel through time to rediscover some artistic masterpieces from the Louvre Abu Dhabi collection. The project explores three prominent archaeological artifacts, including a portrait of Emperor Augustus, the scholars’ satisfaction at the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, and the “Four Mirrors” armor from Mughal India. This experience gives visitors the chance to navigate through vast historical landscapes, making them part of the story rather than mere spectators.
Collective Interaction and Advanced Technology
“Journey Through Time” features collective interaction that makes participants feel like they are part of a shared experience. By moving together in historical environments, visitors create shared memories and enjoy interacting with one another. Marine Bouton, Senior Interpretation and Creative Content Specialist at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, stated, “The ‘Journey Through Time’ is an extension of our mission to highlight the common links between cultures and communities.” She emphasized the museum’s interest in addressing the human aspects of historical events.

The “Journey Through Time” project was developed in collaboration with Small Creative Studio in France and is available in all major languages, making it accessible to a diverse audience, including individuals and families. This experience is suitable for children over eight years old, reflecting the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s goal of attracting a wider audience through experiences that combine learning and entertainment. At the conclusion of the project, Bouton expressed the museum’s pride in offering an experience that invites visitors to engage with history in innovative ways, contributing to building cultural bridges between peoples.
