In a significant crackdown on international drug trafficking, Dubai Police, in collaboration with Kuwait’s General Directorate for Drug Enforcement, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 14 million Captagon pills. This operation highlights the effectiveness of regional cooperation in combating drug-related crimes and underscores the security challenges posed by such illicit activities.
Dubai Police commended the joint efforts and intelligence sharing between Emirati and Kuwaiti authorities, which led to the dismantling of this international drug trafficking network. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, head of the National Drug Control Authority, praised the operation as a reflection of the strong brotherly ties between the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. He emphasized that this achievement signifies an advanced level of operational integration and information exchange between the concerned agencies, tightening the grip on cross-border trafficking networks.
The criminal network utilized sophisticated concealment methods, hiding millions of pills inside cornflakes packages that were meticulously distributed across five containers. Dubai Police reported that a thorough analysis of intelligence data and the collaborative sharing of information between Emirati and Kuwaiti officials played a crucial role in revealing the network’s plan and tracking the movements of individuals associated with the shipment. This timely intervention enabled specialized units to thwart the operation effectively.
Upon receiving confidential information from Kuwaiti drug enforcement, the investigative teams initiated a comprehensive field monitoring plan. This led to the identification of three individuals of Arab nationality linked to the shipment, which was found to have arrived through a port in a neighboring Arab country. With the intelligence picture fully developed, the teams proceeded with a meticulous operation, successfully apprehending the suspects as they were unloading the packages for storage and seizing the entire cache at the scene.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of 2.25 tons of Captagon pills, totaling 14,062,500 tablets that were cleverly concealed within a commercial shipment aimed at evading detection. This seizure stands as one of the largest operational successes targeting organized trafficking networks. Dubai Police asserted that this accomplishment reflects the high readiness of drug enforcement teams and the efficacy of the security framework that combines intelligence analysis with swift field action, supported by the latest technologies and the training of specialized national personnel. They reiterated that combating drug trafficking remains a top security priority due to its direct threat to community security and stability and vowed to continue preemptive strikes against trafficking networks, ensuring that the nation is not exploited as a transit or storage point for such harmful substances.
