In a significant move to enhance the synergy between Dubai‘s transportation infrastructure and its aviation sector, Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), recently held discussions with Paul Griffiths, the CEO of Dubai Airports. Their dialogue centred around strategic partnerships aimed at improving the flow of traffic along routes leading to and from Dubai International Airport and future transport plans for Al Maktoum International Airport.
Al Tayer underscored the importance of integrating transportation and aviation systems, describing it as a fundamental pillar for bolstering Dubai’s competitiveness as a global hub for economy, tourism, and aviation. He noted that the RTA, in coordination with its strategic partners, is committed to developing a comprehensive and flexible network of roads and public transport systems that cater to the rapid growth in the number of residents and visitors, while supporting the urban and economic expansion seen throughout the emirate.
He stated: “Dubai continues, under the vision and directives of its wise leadership, to invest in developing world-class infrastructure that aligns with its future aspirations and supports sustainable growth. The strategic significance of Al Maktoum International Airport and the Dubai South area is paramount within the RTA’s future plans, especially given the rapid urban and economic development occurring there, which is a critical axis in Dubai’s comprehensive development journey.”
Paul Griffiths echoed these sentiments, highlighting that close cooperation with the RTA is crucial in crafting an integrated and seamless travel experience for passengers, from their initial journey to the airport through various stages of their trip. He remarked, “As Dubai enters a new phase of growth, the integration of airports with road networks and public transport systems plays a vital role in our vision to reimagine the future of travel in the emirate.”
Griffiths further added: “We will continue to collaborate with the RTA to develop a transport system that is flexible and future-ready, enhancing standards of accessibility, efficiency, and passenger service. This supports the pivotal role of both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport in establishing Dubai as a leading global gateway for travel and aviation.”
Joint Coordination
During their meeting, the two leaders reviewed future plans and projects for road systems and public transport networks that the RTA intends to implement, particularly in response to anticipated growth at Al Maktoum International Airport and in the Dubai South region. They discussed mechanisms for aligning infrastructure development plans with future aviation sector strategies.
The meeting also addressed the ongoing collaboration between work teams from both sides, emphasising the integration of planning for future projects. This cooperation aims to enhance connectivity between airports, road networks, and public transport systems, improve traffic flow, and meet the demands of population growth and urban development, thereby elevating the quality of life and services for passengers, employees, and clients alike.
