Innovative Roads and Bridges Set to Ease Mussafah Traffic

The Department of Municipalities and Transport has announced its plans to enhance a number of major roads in the Musaffah area. This initiative aims to improve connectivity between the industrial region and key urban centres, including Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Ain City.

Project Overview

The development project will span approximately 13 kilometres along Road E30 and Street (8) in Musaffah. The primary objectives are to alleviate traffic congestion, improve road safety, and reduce travel times.

Key Features

A crucial aspect of the project is the construction of a new motorway along Street (8), which will feature three lanes in each direction, accompanied by an additional three lanes on each side. This will facilitate easier access to shops and services in the area without disrupting the flow of traffic on the main motorway.

The overall capacity of the street is expected to reach approximately 4,000 vehicles per hour, significantly increasing the mobility of residents and businesses in the vicinity.

Infrastructure Improvements

The development will also include enhancements at four intersections along Road E30, improving connections with Street (8) and Road E20. Additionally, modifications will be made to nine intersections, along with the construction of two new bridges that will link Musaffah with Mohammed Bin Zayed City, including a dedicated pedestrian bridge.

Benefits for the Community

Engineer Issa Mubarak Al Mazrouei, General Manager of Infrastructure Development at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, highlighted that the road network in Musaffah serves a wide range of users. He stated, “By separating through traffic from local access and enhancing connections with surrounding communities, we can support economic activity while making daily commutes easier and safer.”

Broader Connectivity Initiatives

This road network development is part of a larger effort to enhance connectivity across the emirate. Future plans include the construction of an underwater tunnel connection between the eastern side of Abu Dhabi Island and Musaffah, traversing beneath the Al Maqtah Channel and the Al Hudayriyat Canal.
