In this article, we explore how community councils, such as the one established in Ajman, play a crucial role in preserving cultural values and building stronger communities in the UAE.
The Opening of the Al-Hamidiya Community Council
On June 24, 2026, Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi inaugurated the Al-Hamidiya community council in the Al-Hamidiya 1 area of Ajman. This initiative is part of the Citizens Affairs Office’s ambitious plan to expand the network of community councils throughout the emirate. The project aligns with the vision of the Ruler of Ajman and the directives of Sheikh Ammar bin Hamid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council. The objective is to create a conducive environment for residents to connect and host social events.
The Importance of Community Councils
Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid emphasized that community councils are an integral part of Emirati heritage, serving a crucial role in enhancing unity among community members and reinforcing values of cooperation and solidarity. “These councils have always been a gathering place for the people of the UAE to discuss, exchange ideas, and strengthen bonds of affection,” he noted. The Ruler highlighted the emirate’s commitment to supporting and developing these councils to meet community needs and promote stability and cohesion.
Support from Local Stakeholders
The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of notable figures such as Sheikh Rashid bin Hamid Al Nuaimi, the Head of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, and Sheikh Dr. Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, the Head of the Ruler’s Court in Ajman, among other dignitaries. Sheikh Abdullah bin Majid Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Citizens Affairs Office in Ajman, remarked that the launch of the Al-Hamidiya community council is part of a comprehensive strategy to expand community council networks across the emirate, thereby providing facilities that serve the citizens and strengthen their communication.
A Space for Community Engagement
He further noted that these councils create effective community spaces that support local initiatives and host events geared towards enhancing connectivity, belonging, and community service. The Al-Hamidiya community council was established at the expense of Obaid bin Ali Al-Muhairi and is equipped with amenities designed to host social and national events, cultural activities, and informational gatherings. This initiative reinforces its role as a unifying platform for the region’s residents, ultimately embodying the essence of community councils as a vital part of Emirati heritage.
