Today marks the 44th anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, a member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, assuming leadership of the emirate, following his late father, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamid Al Nuaimi, may God rest his soul. Since September 6, 1981, His Highness has embarked on a journey filled with wisdom and vision, skillfully leading the emirate with a strong focus on the well-being and progress of its people. Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid’s leadership role is highlighted by his guidance of development and continuous advancement projects, making these 44 years of wise governance and ongoing progress a significant milestone in Ajman’s history.
Educational and Administrative Beginnings
His Highness was born in the city of Ajman, where he began his education in mosque circles, learning the sciences of the Quran, Hadith, and the principles of jurisprudence. He continued his studies with the help of a group of scholars in the fields of language and mathematics. In addition, he engaged in equestrianism and martial arts, becoming close to his late father, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamid Al Nuaimi, who mentored him in matters of governance and administration. In 1960, he was appointed Crown Prince, and in 1966, he was elected Vice President of the Council of the Trucial States, before contributing to the discussions leading to the establishment of the United Arab Emirates in 1968.
Achievements in Education and Culture
Since assuming power on September 6, 1981, His Highness Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi has launched important initiatives to enhance Ajman’s standing. In 1983, he established the Rashid bin Hamid Award for Culture and Sciences to honor outstanding individuals, which helped cement traditions of respect for knowledge and research. Additionally, he sponsored the founding of several educational institutions, such as Ajman University of Science and Technology and City University Ajman. These steps were part of his vision to make Ajman a beacon of knowledge and scholarship.
Promoting Human and Community Values
The humanitarian aspect of His Highness’s journey is evident in his establishment of the Umm Al-Mu’minin Women’s Association in 1974, the Global Charity Foundation in 1984, and the Social Welfare Fund to assist those preparing for marriage. Under his leadership, the emirate has approved an urban development plan through 2030 and launched programs to enhance quality and excellence, which have helped attract investments and expand the role of the private sector.
