The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has honored Sheikh Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, the Chairperson of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, as a leading figure in social work in the United Arab Emirates. This recognition underscores her significant contributions to societal development and community engagement within the region.
During a formal ceremony held alongside the 11th meeting of the GCC Ministers of Social Development in Kuwait last week, Sheikh Dr. Shamma was celebrated for her exemplary role in promoting social initiatives across the UAE. The event was attended by prominent figures, including His Excellency Sheikh Fahad Youssef Saud Al Sabah, the Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and His Excellency Jassem Mohammed Al Budaiwi, the GCC Secretary-General, among other esteemed ministers and dignitaries.
Sheikh Dr. Shamma’s recognition stems from an official nomination by the UAE’s Ministry of Community Development, which highlighted her impactful institutional and community roles. The Ministry commended her various cultural, educational, and youth programs, which have played a pivotal role in empowering diverse community segments, enhancing national identity, and instilling authentic Emirati values in successive generations.
According to the Ministry, the institutions led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan are among the most inspirational models in the region, characterized by a diverse range of initiatives and awareness activities. Their extensive reach within community programs reflects a commitment to showcasing the UAE’s developmental and cultural message in its best light.
This honor aligns with a broader framework established by the GCC to recognize influential figures in community work. The initiative aims to encourage individuals and institutions across the Gulf states to launch innovative social projects, thereby promoting successful experiences that can be shared regionally.
In her remarks, Sheikh Dr. Shamma expressed that this recognition embodies the UAE government’s and leadership’s dedication to supporting and empowering community work. She emphasized the importance of continuing to develop cultural and social initiatives through her institutions, viewing this honor as both a privilege and a responsibility to further advance societal contributions.
