The Federal Tax Authority said that “The Union Pledge Day”, marked every year on 18 July, stands as a defining national milestone in the UAE’s history, recalling the historic gathering at which the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and the Rulers of the Emirates signed the Union document and the UAE Constitution, and announced the Union declaration and the name of the state, laying the firm foundations for the establishment of the Union on 2 December 1971.
A moment to recall the foundations of the Federation
Abdul Aziz Al Mulla, Director-General of the Federal Tax Authority, said the occasion brings to mind the bright milestones in the nation’s Union journey and the lessons learned from them, which helped establish the foundations of the UAE’s renaissance.
He added: “Through this occasion, we renew our pledge that the flag of the UAE will remain flying high, that our national unity will remain firmly rooted, and that we will continue to work in the spirit of one team to strengthen the path of development and prosperity.”
Reinforcing identity, belonging and national awareness
Al Mulla concluded: “The Union Pledge Day strengthens the values of unity and national cohesion, reinforces national identity, and embodies feelings of pride in the achievements of the UAE and its ambitious future vision. It also helps to entrench a sense of belonging and responsibility among everyone living on the land of the UAE, while enhancing national awareness across all segments of society by introducing the historical steps that led to the establishment of the Union, consolidating national values and principles, and acquainting generations with their country’s history and with the efforts and sacrifices made by the founding fathers to build a state that today stands as a global model in development and leadership.”
