Exposure 2026 Unveils Exposure Heritage Awards to Enhance Creativity

In its commitment to promoting visual storytelling as an effective artistic medium, the International Photography Festival “Exposure 2026” has announced the launch of the “Exposure Heritage Awards,” a new cultural initiative aimed at honoring exhibitions that celebrate visual storytelling as a sustainable intellectual legacy. These awards, available for the first time during the tenth edition of the festival, seek to underscore the importance of creative work and enhance cultural awareness through visual arts.

New Award Categories

The “Exposure Heritage Awards” are divided into three main categories: the “Noor Ali Rashid Award for Documentary Heritage,” the “Saleh Al-Astadh Award for Artistic Heritage,” and the “Bee’ah Award for Natural Heritage Preservation.” These awards will be evaluated through a model that combines public interaction and critical reviews from experts, enhancing their cultural credibility. The winners will be announced during the closing ceremony of the “Exposure 2026” festival on February 4, 2026.

Visual Storytelling as a Cultural Force

According to Alia Bouganim Al Suwaidi, Director of the Media Office of the Sharjah Government, “The vision of Exposure in the Heritage Awards stems from an expanded understanding of the concept of cultural heritage.” She believes that heritage should not be treated as a concluded time period but as a living impact that persists through time. “When visual storytelling is presented responsibly, it can build collective memory and deepen human understanding,” adds Al Suwaidi, expressing the profound impact of images and how they can become a language that transcends borders and expresses human experiences.

Awards Named After Prominent Figures

The “Noor Ali Rashid Award for Documentary Heritage” is dedicated to the late Emirati photographer Noor Ali Rashid, who is considered a pioneer of photojournalism in the country. This award honors exhibitions that provide an honest visual narrative addressing humanitarian issues from a deep perspective.

The “Saleh Al-Astadh Award for Artistic Heritage” aims to recognize exhibitions that embody artistic innovation and excellence in photography, bearing the name of Saleh Al-Astadh, one of the most prominent figures in Emirati art. This award distinguishes exhibitions that use photography as a tool for expressing imagination and artistic vision.

Additionally, the “Bee’ah Award for Natural Heritage Preservation,” sponsored by “Bee’ah Group,” focuses on environmental protection and raising environmental awareness through art. It aims to honor exhibitions that highlight the beauty and fragility of nature, encouraging human responsibility towards the environment.

Exposure 2026… A Global Creative Hub

The Exposure Awards contribute to making photography a cultural force that reflects the importance of artistic work and its ability to make a difference. By presenting the tenth edition of the festival with the participation of over 420 photographers and artists from around the world, “Exposure 2026” aims to showcase 95 exhibitions featuring more than 3,200 artworks, alongside a rich cultural program that includes 570 diverse events.

In this way, Sharjah reaffirms its position as a global center for cultural dialogue and creativity in visual storytelling, fostering cultural awareness and supporting human values through art.
