The Faza’a Free Diving Championship “Al-Hayari” will kick off next Tuesday, organized by the Faza’a Championships Management at the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Center, featuring distinguished participation from elite divers at local, Gulf, and international levels. This championship is one of the most prominent events celebrating a sport with deep roots in the maritime history and culture of the region.
The championship will begin with a phase of technical preparations for the participants, lasting until Friday. This phase includes training sessions, acclimatization, and readiness tests in preparation for the qualifying rounds starting on Saturday. The competitions will conclude with the finals on Sunday, where it is expected that these finals will reflect the level of competition in this sport.
This edition is notable for its multi-category participation, including a professional category and a youth category, as well as the introduction of a special heat for citizens, organized for the first time. This aims to support the development of national records and enhance the presence of local talents, contributing to improved performance and an increase in the number of individuals practicing this sport.
The inclusion of a citizens’ heat is part of a developmental vision aimed at encouraging citizen divers to compete in a dedicated environment, allowing them to assess their levels and improve their records in line with the aspirations for the development of traditional sports in the UAE. The youth category also receives special attention, as the championship seeks to prepare a new generation capable of continuing this heritage, potentially serving as a key platform for discovering and honing talents.
Rashed Harib Al-Khasouni, Director of the Faza’a Championships Management, confirmed that the Faza’a Free Diving Championship “Al-Hayari” solidifies its position as a platform that combines competition with cultural heritage, noting that preparations for the current edition were conducted according to the highest organizational standards. He emphasized that the safety of participants is a top priority for the organizing committee, which has implemented a comprehensive system of advanced medical procedures and specialized rescue teams to ensure a safe environment that enables participants to perform at their best.
Al-Khasouni added that the introduction of a special heat for citizens is part of a clear strategy to enhance the readiness of citizen divers and provide greater opportunities for professional development. He also highlighted that the youth category represents an important pillar for the sustainability of this sport, as the championship aims to provide a platform for early talent discovery and to empower them to progress in competition.
Amidst this atmosphere, the Faza’a Free Diving Championship “Al-Hayari” reflects the growing interest in the sport and its role in showcasing the maritime heritage of the state, presenting this culture in a modern competitive format.
