Etihad Airways Launches Direct Flights to Tashkent, Central Asia

Etihad Airways has officially launched its inaugural flight to Tashkent, marking the introduction of its first route to Uzbekistan and establishing a crucial connection between Abu Dhabi and one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.

Strengthening Abu Dhabi’s Connectivity

The new daily direct service enhances Abu Dhabi’s role as a key gateway linking Uzbekistan with the UAE, the wider region, and Etihad’s expanding global network. This initiative allows travellers from Uzbekistan to access major destinations across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Europe, the Levant, and North America through Abu Dhabi, fostering greater connectivity between Central Asia and global centres of trade, culture, and innovation, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on Monday.

Expanded Travel Opportunities

This new service complements a recently established code-share agreement between Etihad Airways and Uzbekistan Airways, enabling passengers to continue their journeys from Tashkent to eight destinations within Uzbekistan, including Andijan, Bukhara, Fergana, Namangan, Nukus, Samarkand, Termez, and Urgench, alongside various international destinations served by Uzbekistan Airways.

Access to Cultural and Recreational Attractions

The new connection provides travellers in Uzbekistan with direct access to Abu Dhabi, which offers a plethora of cultural, entertainment, and tourist experiences. These include the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Saadiyat Island, and the leisure attractions of Yas Island.

Significance of the New Route

During the launch event for the new route, Frank Meyer, Chief Digital Officer at Etihad Airways, remarked that the inaugural flight to Tashkent represents a significant milestone in the airline’s network expansion. He highlighted Uzbekistan as one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing markets in Central Asia, known for its rich cultural heritage, tourist appeal, and increasing economic importance.

Furthermore, Meyer stated that the introduction of a daily direct service between Abu Dhabi and Tashkent opens a new gateway between Central Asia and the world, allowing travellers easy access to numerous destinations within Etihad’s burgeoning global network.
