Communities Unite Against Environmental Crimes in Climate Crisis

In a significant initiative aimed at fostering environmental awareness, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment are collaborating to enhance community understanding of environmental violations and crimes. This partnership underscores their commitment to preserving ecological integrity and protecting endangered species from illegal trafficking and harmful practices. By focusing on the objective of boosting communal knowledge regarding environmental violations, the ministries hope to cultivate a more informed citizenry that adheres to national and international environmental laws.

Recently, a virtual coordination meeting was held between the two ministries to discuss strategies for improving cooperation in raising awareness about environmental crimes and the unlawful treatment of protected animals. Mrowan Abdullah Al Zaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Regions Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the importance of educating the public about regulations concerning the possession, care, and breeding of animals. He pointed out that adhering to the law is essential for maintaining the country’s international reputation.

In support of this, Brigadier Hamad Rashid Al Zaabi, Director of the Federal Investigative Department at the Ministry of Interior, stressed the necessity of compliance with environmental laws and the importance of avoiding repeat offenses. His remarks align with the broader mission of both ministries to reinforce public adherence to legal frameworks that protect the environment and wildlife.

Additionally, Leila Al Khannbashi, Director of the Environmental Police Branch at the Ministry of Interior, highlighted the value of raising community awareness about positive behaviors regarding the acquisition, care, and breeding of animals. She made it clear that individuals must be informed about the consequences of violations, which can lead to severe penalties. Her insights are part of an ongoing effort to promote responsible practices among the public.

The meeting also addressed plans to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign in collaboration with the Security Media Department at the Ministry of Interior and the Government Communication Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. This campaign aims to educate the community about the dangers of environmental crimes, particularly illegal wildlife trafficking, and the associated legal violations. By implementing this initiative, the ministries aspire to underscore the significance of complying with both national and international laws that govern wildlife protection.

Both ministries reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening their strategic partnership focused on environmental awareness and communication. This collaboration will facilitate the exchange of expertise and information to bolster the nation’s efforts toward creating a safe and sustainable environment. Ultimately, these initiatives align with the objectives of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and the UAE Vision 2031, illustrating a collective commitment to a greener future.
