Emirates Airlines has officially resumed its service to the Syrian capital, Damascus, re-establishing connections to over 150 destinations across six continents. The inaugural flight was notable, featuring His Excellency Dr. Ahmad bin Abdullah Hamid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, along with a delegation of Emirates officials.

Warm Welcome in Damascus

Flight EK 913 arrived at Damascus International Airport at 14:30, carrying 286 passengers. The arrival was met with an official welcome, including traditional water cannon salutes, led by Hassan Ahmed Al Shihi, the UAE Ambassador to Syria. The official Syrian delegation included several high-ranking officials, underscoring the significance of this event.

Positive Impact on Bilateral Relations

Adeel Al Ghaith, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for the Middle East, stated, “This service will connect the Syrian capital to the world and reunite families and friends.” The relationship between the UAE and Syria is strong, with Syria being an important market for Emirates Airlines since it began flights there in 1988. By facilitating the transport of passengers and goods, Emirates aims to enhance tourism, trade, and investment in Syria.

Future Growth Plans

Emirates Airlines plans to increase the number of flights in the upcoming phase. The airline will operate three weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, with plans to increase to four weekly flights starting August 2 by adding a Saturday flight. The airline is expected to expand its services to a daily flight starting October 26, reflecting its commitment to strengthening ties with the Syrian capital and supporting recovery efforts in the country.
