Dubai Roads discusses the latest project launched to upgrade the streets of Umm Suqeim, Al Wasl, and Al Safa, responding to the city’s growing needs. This project is part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) efforts in Dubai to enhance road infrastructure and improve traffic flow in the area. With the implementation of new bridges and tunnels, the project aims to increase the capacity of these vital streets, contributing to an improved commuting experience for both residents and visitors.
Developing Vital Streets
The RTA has awarded the contract for the development of Umm Suqeim Street, which extends from its intersection with Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Street. The project also includes the development of Al Wasl Street from its intersection with Umm Suqeim Street to its intersection with the Second of December Street, along with the upgrading of Al Safa Street from its intersection with Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Wasl Street. Additionally, seven intersections on Jumeirah Street will undergo development.
Improving Infrastructure
The project features the construction of bridges and tunnels spanning 11,000 meters, which will assist in the surface expansion of the roads. As a result, the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street is expected to increase to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, helping to alleviate traffic congestion. The capacity of both Al Wasl and Al Safa Streets will also rise to 12,000 vehicles per hour in each direction.
The Importance of the Project
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, described this project as part of a comprehensive plan to develop roads in the area, which includes developmental projects for Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Wasl, and Al Safa streets. These enhancements aim to serve vital areas that host many modern tourist facilities, such as beaches, hotels, and upscale restaurants, in addition to educational institutions and various event centers.
Supporting Economic Growth
Al Tayer added that developing the infrastructure of the road and transport network is a key driver of the economy and an essential element in supporting urban growth and enhancing Dubai’s attractiveness for investment and business. He emphasized that improving vital corridors contributes to increasing the efficiency of the traffic network, reducing travel times, which positively impacts individual productivity and the efficiency of various economic sectors.
