Dubai Roads Opens Two Bridges as Part of the Commercial Center Roundabout Development Project
Dubai has achieved a significant milestone in infrastructure, with the Roads and Transport Authority inaugurating two new bridges as part of the Commercial Center Roundabout development project. This initiative aims to enhance traffic flow and represents a crucial step in facilitating movement between major roads, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a modern and advanced city.
Details of the New Project
The two new bridges serve traffic heading from the Second of December Street toward Sheikh Rashid Street and the Council Street leading to Future Street. Each bridge is designed with two lanes in each direction, increasing their capacity to accommodate approximately 6,000 vehicles per hour. The total length of the bridges is about 2,000 meters, contributing to alleviating traffic congestion in the area.
Opening Date and Improvement Impact
The bridges were opened ahead of schedule, before the mid-January deadline, marking a notable achievement for the authority. This project significantly enhances traffic flow, reducing travel time from the Second of December Street to both the Council Street and Future Street, as well as Zabeel Palace Street, from 10 minutes to just 2 minutes. These improvements are expected to decrease traffic density at the Commercial Center Roundabout.
The Importance of the Commercial Center Roundabout
The Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the authority, Mattar Al Tayer, stated that “the Commercial Center Roundabout is one of the most important major intersections in Dubai.” It connects Sheikh Zayed Road with five vital streets, including Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, Second of December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and the Council Street. The project, which exceeds a cost of 696 million dirhams, includes the construction of five bridges totaling 5,000 meters and the transformation of the existing roundabout into a surface intersection, enhancing traffic flow to and from these essential roads.
These projects are part of ongoing efforts to redevelop Dubai’s road network, reflecting the Roads and Transport Authority’s commitment to improving infrastructure quality and facilitating movement for all residents and visitors of the city.
