Dubai’s food scene is undergoing a vibrant transformation with the emergence of **experiential dining**, a trend that emphasizes immersive culinary experiences over traditional meals. As celebrity chefs redefine gastronomic boundaries, food enthusiasts are flocking to venues that not only tantalize the taste buds but also engage all the senses. This new trend reflects a shift towards casual dining experiences, exotic environments, and unique chef-led concepts that are reshaping the culinary landscape in the city.
The increasing allure of **experiential dining** is drawing attention from renowned international brands and celebrated chefs, prompting established players in the industry to seek fresh investments and partnerships aimed at diversifying their offerings. This environment of innovation is fueling a culinary renaissance, captivating both diners and industry experts alike.
The Essence of Experiential Dining in Dubai
Chef Mohamad Orfali of Orfali Bros, a notable voice in Dubai’s culinary landscape, exemplifies the direction of **experiential dining**. His innovative Middle Eastern cuisine continues to break new ground. Similarly, Chef Akmal Anaur, known for his culinary mastery from Dubai to New York, is pivoting towards Italian cuisine with Funkoolio while launching a new concept called Harumanis. Meanwhile, Chef Reif Othman, a finance broker turned award-winning chef, is redefining Japanese gastronomy through his project, Tero by Reif. These chefs are at the forefront of creating a diverse, multicultural dining experience that characterizes **experiential dining** in Dubai.
Culinary enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting Chef Gregoire’s ventures after his success with Ossiano and are intrigued by Chef Gonzalo’s innovative adaptations of fire-based cooking at his establishment, Fiya. In addition to these culinary giants, hidden gems are also contributing to the growing appeal of outdoor dining, such as a clandestine five-seater omakase experience that promises an authentic taste of Japanese sushi reminiscent of Tokyo.
“It’s [**experiential** dining] no longer just a trend, but a demand and preference among patrons [in Dubai],” said Ola El Jaroudi, Founder of Cucina Del Sul, a culinary content and experiences platform. “Many talented cooks – often the backbone of successful F&B concepts – are stepping into the spotlight to build personal brands, gain recognition, and carve out their paths, elevating the **experiential** concept in Dubai.”
Experiential dining is currently witnessing a growing number of new entrants introducing notable concepts.
A Surge of Amateur Cooks in the Culinary Scene
The rise of **experiential dining** is also marked by a wave of amateur cooks entering the culinary world, eager to make their mark and gain recognition. Industry insiders note that dishes are increasingly crafted from personal experiences and regional influences, requiring creativity, experimentation, and the freedom to innovate—often a challenge in the economically constrained restaurant industry.
El Jaroudi highlighted how passionate home cooks and supper club hosts are refining their skills through small-scale dining experiences, paving the way for future ventures such as catering, pop-ups, or even full-fledged restaurants. “This new breed of chefs is honoring local ecosystems and sourcing produce to enhance their **experiential** offerings,” she noted.
Cucina Del Sul serves as an incubator, fostering local talent and using its resources to propel growth in the **experiential dining** market. Though traditional revenue streams like events and sponsorships remain, El Jaroudi emphasized exploring partnerships and investments to further diversify income sources.
The new breed of chefs is also increasingly paying homage to the land, the ecosystem, and locally sourced produce to enhance the ‘experiential’ touch.
Filling Market Gaps through Innovative Partnerships
Identifying market gaps is crucial for the **experiential dining** sector, which is actively collaborating with emerging culinary talents to develop new concepts and upscale existing ones. El Jaroudi explained, “Through our global network, including the World Food Championships, we’re also exploring opportunities to export concepts to international markets and establish cross-country collaborations.”
“This aligns with Dubai’s vision by not only representing the city on a global stage but also by driving culinary innovation through high-potential F&B concepts,” she added. Further elevating the community culinary adventurer event in 2025, El Jaroudi promises exciting themes, including “Meats & Mountains” and “BBQ on the Bay,” aimed at delivering unique experiences.
With ongoing plans for a new culinary destination overlooking the canal, El Jaroudi teased, “While details remain under wraps, it promises to be a remarkable addition.” The flagship event “Meats & Mountains” at Jebel Hafit Desert Park, now in its third year, attracts over 600 guests for an outdoor culinary experience, showcasing the vast potential of **experiential dining**.
“Our vision is to replicate these large-scale food festivals within the city,” El Jaroudi concluded, alluding to potential venues in historically rich locations like AlUla and Petra. “While scaling up is on our agenda, we aim to maintain an intimate quality for attendees by intentionally limiting ticket sales.”
