The expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure in Dubai is taking a giant leap forward, as Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, announced the establishment of 1,860 charging points under the “Green Charger” initiative. This extensive network aims to facilitate the growing demand for electric vehicles, making Dubai a pioneer in sustainable transportation within the region. As of mid-January 2026, this initiative has attracted 23,600 registered users and provided over 55,200 megawatt-hours of charging capacity since its inception in 2014, empowering electric vehicles to cover more than 276 million kilometers.
Vision for a Sustainable Future
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized the alignment of the “Green Charger” initiative with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, to position Dubai as a global leader in the transition towards a green economy and sustainable mobility. “We strive to support the Emirate’s Climate Neutral 2050 Strategy and Dubai’s Green Mobility 2030 Strategy, which encourages the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation methods,” he stated, highlighting the commitment to enhance the region’s infrastructure while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.
A Variety of Charging Options
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority offers four types of charging stations as part of the “Green Charger” initiative: ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-mounted chargers. Users can locate these charging stations conveniently through the authority’s website and mobile app, along with 14 other digital platforms. This array of options ensures that electric vehicle users can find suitable charging solutions across various locations in the city.
Easy Access for All Users
To make the charging process as seamless as possible, the authority has implemented an easy registration process for users to create a “Green Charger” account via its official website or mobile app. Additionally, the interactive voice response system can assist customers in setting up their accounts quickly. Once registered, users can start utilizing the charging stations within just one hour. For visitors, the service is also accessible via the “Visitor Feature,” ensuring everyone can benefit from this sustainable initiative.
The commitment to sustainability and the growth of electric vehicle infrastructure is being closely monitored, and updates are regularly provided to the public.
