The Dubai Memory project highlights the arts through a new initiative aimed at enhancing the culture and art scene in the city. In the heart of the Jumeirah area, the site of the former Dubai Zoo has been transformed into an open-air art exhibition, thanks to the collaboration between North Holding Company and artist Solimar Miller. This project reflects the rich natural heritage of the location, bringing to life 12 original artworks that contribute to enhancing Dubai’s artistic memory and honoring its cultural history.
Creative Art Project in the Heart of Jumeirah
As part of the initiative supporting the “Art in Public Spaces” strategy in Dubai, North Holding Company has launched an art project that embodies the spirit of the place. In collaboration with artist Solimar Miller, they have transformed the former Jumeirah Zoo site into an open art park, featuring a collection of artworks inspired by the local environment.
Art Serving Natural Heritage
The displayed works, titled “Plants of Light,” include artistic representations of Emirati trees, plants, and animals. According to Miller, this artwork reflects the organic relationship between humans and nature, emphasizing the importance of preserving natural heritage through art. Her selection through the “Excellence” program showcases North Holding Company’s commitment to supporting artists who seek to integrate culture and art into public spaces, marking a significant step in enhancing Dubai’s memory as a cultural and artistic hub.
Reviving Collective Memory
Abdullah bin Habtoor, CEO of North Holding Company, expressed pride in this collaboration, noting that “the former Dubai Zoo was an important part of the collective memory of the emirate.” He also highlighted how the project contributes to reshaping the public landscape with an artistic touch, making Dubai’s memory vibrant and renewed.
Sustainable Arts in the City
Solimar Miller, who has lived in Dubai for over twenty years, aims to use art to express the importance of the environment and the necessity of preserving biodiversity. Through her exhibited works, she hopes to inspire visitors to appreciate green spaces and sustainable practices. These artworks are not just images; they are a call to preserve Dubai’s vibrant memory.
With the artworks on display for two years, this project is expected to have a significant impact on the local community and visitors to the Jumeirah area, reinforcing the arts as an integral part of Dubai’s cultural memory.
