Dubai Roads Achieves 60% Completion of the Development Project for Oud Metha and Al Aseel Streets

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a significant milestone, having completed 60% of the development project for Oud Metha and Al Aseel streets. This project is part of a broader plan to enhance the Sheikh Rashid corridor, aimed at improving connectivity between the Al Aseel area and Al Khail Road. With this progress, the project is expected to serve over 420,000 residents by 2030.

Project Details and Technologies Used

The project includes the development of four main intersections and the construction of bridges spanning 4,300 meters, along with over 14 kilometers of new roads. The contractor has completed approximately 70% of the bridge works, which will enhance traffic flow from Al Aseel Street to Al Khail Road, with expectations to open these sections in the first quarter of this year.

Additionally, around 60% of the construction work for the tunnel linking Dubai-Al Ain Road with Al Wasl Road has been completed, with ongoing efforts to expand other roads and bridges, expected to be finished by the third quarter of the year.

Importance of the Project and Future Services

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, stated that this project responds to the directives of the wise leadership and is among the most prominent infrastructure development projects for the road network. The project will significantly increase the capacity of Oud Metha Street from 10,400 vehicles per hour to 15,600 vehicles, reducing travel time from 20 minutes to just 5 minutes, marking a 75% increase in efficiency.

Main Intersections: Multiple Improvements

The project encompasses four main intersections. For instance, the intersection of Oud Metha Street with Sheikh Rashid Road is being enhanced by adding a left-turn ramp, increasing its capacity to 1,800 vehicles per hour. This improvement will also enhance traffic safety, allowing for smoother traffic flow.

Furthermore, enhancements at the intersection of Oud Metha Street with Al Aseel and Al Wasl streets will include the construction of two bridges that will facilitate more effective traffic flow, ensuring speed and fluidity after the project is completed.

Integrated Traffic Facilities

The intersection of Al Wasl Street with Al Khail Road will also see notable development through the construction of a two-lane bridge. With these additions, the project aims to significantly increase capacity, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance movement efficiency in the area.

The project looks forward to delivering tangible benefits to residents of service and residential areas such as Zabeel and Al Jaddaf, as these developments will be an integral part of Dubai’s vision for innovation in infrastructure and transportation.
