The Dubai Police’s General Command has reported a successful decrease in fraud-related incidents this year, attributing this improvement to the collaborative efforts of over 25 government and semi-government entities as part of the “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign. This initiative has significantly raised public awareness regarding the risks of fraud and its evolving methods.
Community Awareness: The First Line of Defence
During a recent anti-fraud forum held by the General Department of Criminal Investigations and the Criminal Police at the Officers Club, officials emphasised that an informed family represents the first line of defence against various forms of fraud. The forum, titled “A Community of Informed Families,” was attended by notable figures including Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and other senior security officials.
Strengthening Partnerships for Enhanced Prevention
This initiative aligns with “The Year of the Family” and Cybersecurity Awareness Month, highlighting the Dubai Police’s commitment to enhancing community protection, expanding institutional partnerships, and boosting awareness about fraudulent practices, especially in digital environments. Lieutenant General Al Marri stated that safeguarding the community from fraud requires proactive security efforts, community awareness, and strong institutional collaboration.
Coordinated Efforts Against Fraud
The results from the “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign underscore the importance of cooperation among governmental bodies in disseminating awareness messages across different community segments. The drive to develop preventative initiatives is ongoing, as both Lieutenant General Al Marri and Major General Harb Mohammed Al Shamsi stressed the role of families in recognising and mitigating fraud risks.
Advanced Strategies to Combat Fraud
Two years ago, Dubai Police established a specialised Fraud Combat Centre to keep pace with the evolving nature of fraudulent crimes and enhance capabilities for monitoring, analysing, and responding to reports. Major General Al Shamsi outlined that this centre continuously develops mechanisms to track fraud cases and detect new methodologies in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Educational Initiatives and Community Involvement
Major Saeed Al Hajri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigations, affirmed that partnerships with government and semi-government entities have broadened the reach of the “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign, ensuring that its educational messages reach diverse community groups. The forum included presentations addressing the latest fraud techniques and prevention strategies, emphasising the critical role of institutional and community collaboration in countering these crimes.
Insights on Cybercrime and Data Protection
During the forum, Major Abdullah Al Shahi, Director of the Cybercrime and Cyber Security Department, presented an analysis of recent electronic crimes and associated risks of utilising modern technologies. Moreover, Major Ali Al Yamahee, Director of the Fraud Combat Centre, discussed crucial fraudulent practices, their detection, and avoidance strategies, highlighting the importance of timely reporting to support counter-fraud efforts.
Recognition for Partnering Entities
The event concluded with the Dubai Police recognising various governmental and semi-governmental bodies along with supporting partners of the “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign, acknowledging their contributions in promoting awareness and enhancing community security culture.
