Dubai has launched the world’s first global classification system designed to assess the extent of collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence in research, publishing, and content creation. This innovative system aims to establish a clear standard for understanding the interplay between human creativity and AI capabilities, marking a significant advancement in the realm of digital content management.
A Groundbreaking Classification System
The classification system, developed by the Dubai Future Foundation, utilizes icon-based metrics to gauge the level of Human-Machine Collaboration (HMC). This tool offers a new global transparency standard, clearly indicating how humans and AI interact throughout the production process. Importantly, this classification is available at no cost and is protected by copyright to ensure consistency, making it accessible to researchers, publishers, and content creators worldwide.
A Vision for the Future
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Defense, and Chairman of the Dubai Future Foundation, stated, “Distinguishing between human creativity and artificial intelligence has become a real challenge due to the rapid advancement of technology, necessitating a new approach to clarify the role of AI in our work and productivity.” He emphasized that the global classification system comprises five primary icons that indicate the degree of collaboration between humans and technology in producing and publishing various types of content—including reports, academic studies, media images, social media posts, and public-facing materials.
An Invitation to Content Creators
In his remarks, Sheikh Hamdan urged researchers, writers, publishers, and content creators worldwide to take advantage of these new global classification icons, using them responsibly and beneficially for society. The HMC system focuses on the entire production process, from idea generation and data analysis to writing and design, encompassing academic papers, reports, and educational content.
Enhancing Responsible AI Usage
The classification system includes five main icons that define the spectrum of collaboration between humans and machines, ranging from complete human production to fully automated output. Additionally, it features nine sub-icons that represent various stages of collaboration, such as idea generation, data collection, writing, and translation. These icons aid institutions and individuals in promoting responsible AI use and building trust in an era dominated by machine learning tools.
The system was developed in response to a query raised in the “50 Global Opportunities” report by the Dubai Future Foundation for 2024: “What if we had a ‘Turing Declaration’ for AI usage?” The HMC system serves as Dubai’s response to enhancing research integrity and content transparency.
