Dubai Launches 13 New Bicycle Trails for Cycling Enthusiasts

Dubai Roads Completes 13 Cycling Paths in the Emirate

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai continues to enhance sustainable transportation infrastructure in the emirate by completing 13 dedicated cycling paths. This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at increasing designated cycling routes to 1,000 kilometers by 2030. These paths are distributed across various areas in Dubai, forming an effective network that represents a significant step toward making the city one of the leading global destinations for cycling facilities.

Expanding the Cycling Network

The new RTA projects are part of a strategic plan to create 15 paths totaling 162 kilometers. These paths connect different areas, from Al Qusais to Al Mamzar, facilitating movement for tourists and residents from Al Warqa to Saih Al Salam, as well as from the financial district to Jumeirah. Additionally, work is currently underway to build dedicated pedestrian and cycling bridges, which will be among the largest in the emirate.

Driving Efforts Towards Further Development

Matar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, stated that “the expansion of cycling and pedestrian paths and bridges reflects the directives of the wise leadership.” These efforts will be more than just paths; they will enhance road safety and provide a safe and suitable environment for road users. The establishment of cycling paths encourages the use of sustainable individual transportation for short trips.

Dubai’s Ranking in Global Indicators

The RTA’s efforts aim to bolster and showcase positive results on the Copenhagen Bicycle Index. By 2025, the emirate hopes to be listed among the top 100 bike-friendly cities in the world. This index is based on infrastructure quality, levels of bicycle use, and institutional support. These initiatives reflect Dubai’s commitment to becoming an ideal city for sustainable mobility and enhancing its international standing.

Current and Future Projects

Several projects have been completed, including paths in Al Qusais Second and Al Barsha Second, with the opening of paths extending approximately 18.5 kilometers. As part of enhancing mobility, these projects also include paths around public transport stations. Meanwhile, a 13.5-kilometer path is being developed on Hessa Street, featuring two significant bridges crossing main roads, facilitating movement between residential areas and commercial centers.

With this ongoing expansion, the RTA expresses its commitment to creating a comfortable and safe mobility environment, pleasing both residents and visitors and promising a unique experience in the field of cycling transportation.

According to Matar Al Tayer: “The selection of path locations was based on precise field studies, enhancing the potential for optimal use of these projects.” Through these initiatives, the emirate aims to achieve a modern vision of being one of the best destinations for cycling experiences, focusing on sustainable urban living.
