Dubai Electricity Enhances Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and protect the environment, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) stands out as a leader in this national and international endeavor. Through its pioneering projects and environmental initiatives, DEWA emphasizes the importance of collective action to address environmental challenges and raise awareness about the responsibilities of all community members. These efforts aim to make Dubai a model of sustainability and environmental protection.

Sustainability Heritage in the UAE

DEWA has highlighted the rich and deep-rooted legacy of the United Arab Emirates in sustainability and environmental protection, demonstrating its effective commitment to advancing the climate action agenda. On the occasion of National Environment Day, His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, stated, “We draw our plans from the visionary approach established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul.”

Future Strategic Directions

DEWA’s plans are based on a wise vision that enhances the connection between environmental sustainability and development. In line with the UAE’s Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050, DEWA aims to make Dubai a global model for sustainable development. In this context, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park stands out as the largest single-site solar energy complex, currently producing 3,860 megawatts of energy, with expectations to increase this capacity to over 8,000 megawatts by 2030.

Innovative Energy Generation Projects

Innovative projects, such as the green hydrogen project, showcase DEWA’s commitment to implementing new energy solutions. This project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa for producing hydrogen using solar energy, having generated over 100 tons of hydrogen, which contributed to the production of more than 1.15 gigawatt-hours of green energy.

Digital Transformation in Services

DEWA also relies on the smart grid as the backbone of digital transformation in the electricity and water sectors. This grid includes more than 2.2 million smart meters, enhancing the ability to monitor and analyze consumption in real-time. Additionally, the “The Sail” building is being constructed, which will be the largest, tallest, and smartest net-zero energy government building in the world, highlighting DEWA’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

DEWA continuously works to enhance sustainability and protect the environment, encouraging all community members to actively participate through creative initiatives and a clear forward-looking vision. The ongoing pursuit of these efforts reflects the UAE’s commitment to preserving the environment and enhancing natural resources, with Dubai taking a leading role in global sustainability.
