The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Shell are exploring collaboration opportunities in the realm of clean energy. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation, focusing on transformative technologies that can shape a greener future for the UAE. During a recent meeting, the leadership teams from DEWA and Shell discussed various strategies to enhance clean energy initiatives, signaling a step towards more sustainable energy practices in the region.
On July 26, 2025, at a reception hosted by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, a delegation from Shell, led by Fahker Badr, Chair of Shell in Iraq and the UAE, was welcomed. The visiting team also included Geraldine Weising, Senior Political Analyst at the Strategic Insights and Scenarios Unit, and Hessa Abdullah, Shell’s Head of Media Relations for the Middle East. The discussions centered around sustainable energy solutions and the role of artificial intelligence in this transformation.
During the meeting, Shell presented insights from its latest report titled “Energy Security Scenarios 2025: Energy and Artificial Intelligence.” This report details how artificial intelligence can reshape global energy systems through three different pathways: Archipelagos, Horizon, and Rush. These scenarios are critical strategic tools for decision-makers, aiding them in anticipating future challenges, assessing risks, and identifying opportunities in the rapidly evolving energy landscape.
The talks also highlighted potential collaboration avenues to support the circular and green economy. His Excellency Al Tayer shared details about DEWA’s pioneering projects in clean energy, notably the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, recognized as the largest single-site solar park globally under an independent power producer model. Additionally, he mentioned the “Sail” building, DEWA’s new headquarters, designed to be the largest and tallest government building in the world to be energy-positive.
Furthermore, Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s achievements in adopting artificial intelligence technologies, showcasing a strategic roadmap aimed at becoming the world’s first fully digital utility incorporating AI across all operational processes. In response, Fahker Badr underscored Shell’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s transition to clean energy, reinforcing the significance of this partnership.
Through their collaboration, DEWA and Shell aim to drive forward the agenda of clean energy, leveraging advanced technologies and innovative practices that contribute to a sustainable energy future in the region.
