Dubai Customs Raises Awareness of Intellectual Property

Dubai Customs is committed to raising awareness of intellectual property through a series of workshops aimed at enhancing community culture around the protection of innovators’ rights. As part of the “Neighborhood Councils” initiative, the department targeted the areas of Umm Suqeim and Al Rashidiya to strengthen understanding of intellectual property among various community segments. Raising awareness of intellectual property is one of the fundamental pillars for protecting creativity and contributing to the national economy.

Dubai Customs’ Efforts in Community Awareness

Dubai Customs organized awareness workshops under the slogan “Neighborhood Councils” in the areas of Umm Suqeim and Al Rashidiya, aiming to promote a culture of intellectual property protection and innovation. Mansour Al Malek, Executive Director of the Policies and Legislation Sector at Dubai Customs, stated that the department is working to establish an informed environment regarding intellectual property rights. He emphasized, “Every individual must take responsibility for protecting intellectual property, not just regulatory authorities.”

Dubai Customs teams have taken serious steps to enhance their readiness to combat the smuggling of counterfeit and fake goods through Dubai’s ports, utilizing modern technologies and smart targeting systems to ensure the protection of local markets.

Community Engagement with the Initiative

Yousef Azar Mubarak, Director of Intellectual Property Rights Protection, confirmed that this initiative seeks to expand community awareness regarding intellectual property rights. The workshops help educate individuals on how to distinguish between original and counterfeit products, facilitating support for the national economy and stimulating innovation.

Furthermore, Mubarak added that “involving senior citizens and employees of government institutions embodies our ongoing efforts to build effective community partnerships.” This contributes to spreading the awareness message to all community segments and provides new tools to ensure that awareness messages reach audiences in an interactive and engaging manner.

Positive Impact on the Community

Nouf Al Abed, Senior Officer of Community Responsibility, reported that Dubai Customs’ participation in the Neighborhood Councils initiative aligns with the state’s directives for the Year of Community, which aims to enhance community cohesion and promote awareness and shared responsibility. She pointed out that the department is continuously working to create sustainable behavioral change regarding respect for intellectual property.
