In a significant operation aimed at enforcing tax compliance and curbing smuggling activities, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) and the Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation recently confiscated approximately 3.6 million illicit goods in the first half of the year. This concerted effort has led to the filing of 59 violation reports against various establishments and individuals, with the total value of tax liabilities and penalties amounting to AED 82,064,198.
Joint Efforts Yield Results
These results were detailed during a joint meeting held at the FTA headquarters in Dubai, attended by prominent officials including FTA Director General Abd Aziz Al Mulla, Executive Director of the Tax Compliance Sector Sara Al Habshi, and Colonel Dr. Saud Mohammed Al Khalidi, Assistant Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation. The attendees reviewed performance indicators pertaining to regulatory and inspection activities stemming from their collaborative efforts, as well as updates on combating tax evasion and enforcing administrative violations.
Strengthening Regulatory Frameworks
Abd Aziz Al Mulla emphasised that the strategic partnership with Dubai Police serves as a cornerstone of enhancing the efficacy of the tax regulatory system. He praised the collaborative teams for their efforts in conducting inspections that yield significant results, thereby fostering compliance with regulations and ensuring a competitive business environment while protecting legitimate enterprises within the country.
Modern Techniques in Tax Enforcement
Al Mulla further noted that this collaboration, coupled with knowledge exchange and the adoption of modern technologies, significantly enhances the efficiency of supervisory operations. It equips authorities with the capability to detect violations and take appropriate legal action against offenders.
Community Engagement and Consumer Protection
Sara Al Habshi highlighted that the FTA’s initiatives extend beyond mere inspections. The authority aims to bolster community partnerships through the “Raqeeb” platform, dedicated to reporting tax evasion cases. This platform allows various segments of society to contribute to protecting markets and public funds. She added that the FTA intensifies its efforts to ensure compliance among all tax participants, aiming to shield consumers from dealing with non-compliant tax goods that fail to meet established quality standards. Al Habshi reiterated that effective communication and continuous coordination with partners are essential for enhancing oversight and safeguarding markets.
Future Collaboration and Compliance Goals
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to ongoing cooperation in executing campaigns to uncover non-compliant goods. They underscored the necessity of monitoring adherence to tax regulations throughout the country. The aim of this coordination is to elevate compliance levels, enhance the effectiveness of inspection operations, and leverage shared capabilities and expertise to support the sustainability of the tax system in the United Arab Emirates.
