In response to visionary directives aimed at enhancing [Dubai’s infrastructure](https://dubai-lifestyle.ae/dubai-airshow-elevates-uaes-status-as-global-event-hub/), the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the development of the intersection at Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Al Aweer and Al Manama Streets. This project is pivotal not only for improving traffic flow but also for meeting the demands of urban growth and increasing population density, ultimately elevating the quality of life for Dubai residents.

The RTA has awarded a contract for the development of the intersection at Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Al Aweer and Al Manama Streets, in line with the directives of leadership to enhance the infrastructure of the road network and various public transport systems. The project includes the construction of bridges totaling 2,300 meters, an increase in the number of lanes, and the creation of service roads along Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Al Aweer Streets in both directions. This project will raise the street’s capacity from 5,200 vehicles per hour to 14,400 vehicles, reflecting an increase of 176%. It is also expected to reduce travel time from 20 minutes to just five minutes, with completion anticipated in the third quarter of 2028.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, stated that the implementation of the project is part of the authority’s comprehensive plan to develop the road and bridge network, as well as crossings and tunnels, aimed at accommodating the growing traffic volume and improving transportation flow. The project will serve residential and developmental areas inhabited and visited by more than 600,000 people, underscoring the importance of enhancing the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Street with Al Aweer Street to facilitate mobility in the emirate.

Al Tayer added, “The development project of the intersection at Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Al Aweer Street includes converting the existing roundabout into a flyover to enhance traffic flow.” This involves constructing main bridges with a capacity of four lanes in each direction, along with ramps to facilitate right and left turns. The project will also address traffic flow at the intersection of Al Aweer Street with Emirates Road, further easing transportation towards Al Aweer and [Sharjah](https://dubai-lifestyle.ae/young-literary-talents-shine-bright-at-sharjah-book-fair/).

As for the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Street with Al Manama Street, it will include an expansion to four lanes in each direction, thereby enhancing capacity. The project also aims to improve the performance of the surface intersection controlled by traffic signals to meet the increasing demands resulting from urban growth.

It is worth noting that the development of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street is part of broader efforts undertaken by the RTA, which has implemented a four-lane road spanning 25 kilometers. This has included the development of several intersections with the surrounding road network, including the construction of a flyover at the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, thereby enhancing traffic flow in the area. All these efforts affirm the ongoing commitment to improving Dubai’s infrastructure to meet the needs of its residents and visitors.
