DB World Expands Truck Fleet by 40% for Growth

In a significant move to enhance its positioning in global supply chains, DP World has announced plans to expand its trucking fleet by nearly 40%. The initiatives are aimed at diversifying the logistics connections that link the Arabian Gulf with Europe, the United States, and Asia. Stephen Wittingham, the Chief Operating Officer for Shipping Affairs in Europe at DP World, shared these insights during an interview with Bloomberg.

Expansion Plans Amid Regional Challenges

Wittingham highlighted the urgency of the expansion, noting that DP World responded rapidly to recent disruptions in shipping routes caused by Iran‘s interference with navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Within days of these developments, the company launched a new overland shipping service connecting Western Europe with the Arabian Gulf through Turkey. This service is currently handling up to 50 trucks weekly.

Diverse Cargo and Service Innovations

The demand for cargo transport has been predominantly focused on automotive parts and daily consumer products. In light of this, DP World has implemented hybrid transport solutions that combine both maritime and overland shipping for cargo arriving from Asia and the United States, leveraging pathways through Turkey.

Aiming for Growth in Fleet Size

Wittingham confirmed that the company aims to increase its truck fleet from 700 to 1,000 vehicles. This expanded fleet will facilitate a “land bridge” within the region, ensuring connections to ports outside the Arabian Gulf, including Fujairah in the UAE, Salalah in Oman, and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
