In an impressive display of operational efficiency, the Southern Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, managed by DP World, has achieved its highest monthly throughput since its inception in 1999. During July 2026, the terminal handled over 221,200 standard containers, a significant milestone attributed to the sustained growth in trade and continuous investments in capacity, equipment, and infrastructure.
Record-Breaking Export Volumes
Additionally, the terminal recorded its highest monthly export volume to date, with 79,720 standard containers exported in the same month. These figures highlight a robust recovery, with monthly handling volumes surpassing levels noted prior to the disruptions in shipping through the Red Sea that began in late 2023.
Substantial Growth in Throughput
In the first half of this year, container throughput surged by approximately 79% compared to the same period in 2025, encompassing imports, exports, and transshipment operations. The terminal welcomed 390 vessels during these six months, underlining its growing significance in regional and global trade.

Ahmad Youssef Al Hassan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World in the Gulf Cooperation Council, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enhancing capacity and improving logistical connections. These efforts aim to streamline the flow of goods and connect businesses with both regional and international markets.
Recent Investments in Infrastructure
The latest investments at the Southern Container Terminal include the addition of three new quay cranes, bringing the total to 17, along with the procurement of 17 new automated electric bridge cranes, 35 electric yard tractors, and 30 new trailers. Moreover, upgrades have been made to refrigerated container facilities and cold storage infrastructure, further strengthening the terminal’s capabilities.
