The sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has reached a significant milestone, with a completion rate of 68.59%. This project is pivotal in establishing Dubai as a leader in renewable energy, as it aims to meet the ambitious targets set by the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. Under the supervision of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the solar park is set to produce a total capacity of 1,800 megawatts, proving essential to Dubai’s commitment to sustainability.
The Progress of the Project
During a recent site visit, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, examined the progress of work on the sixth phase, which is designed to operate under an independent power producer scheme with investments totaling approximately AED 5.5 billion. As part of the world’s largest single-site solar energy complex, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park plays a crucial role in driving Dubai’s energy transition toward cleaner sources.
Achievements to Date
Al Tayer was briefed on the current status by officials from Shuaa Energy 4. Impressively, the work completion stands at about 68.59%, with 1,000 megawatts already operational out of the targeted 1,800 megawatts. More than 2.236 million photovoltaic solar panels have been installed, and the total number is expected to reach 3.959 million once the project is completed next year.
Future Capacity and Goals
Currently, the operational capacity of the solar park is 3,860 megawatts, with additional projects in progress contributing another 800 megawatts. It is projected that the overall capacity will rise to 7,260 megawatts by 2030, surpassing the initial goal of 5,000 megawatts. This will result in clean energy sources accounting for approximately 34% of Dubai’s total energy production.
Innovative Solar Technology
DEWA is employing state-of-the-art bifacial photovoltaic solar panel technology for the sixth phase of the park. This advanced system captures sunlight reflecting off both the front and rear sides of the panels, complemented by a single-axis solar tracking system. These efforts not only optimize energy generation but also align with the goals of achieving 100% clean energy output by 2050.
As the project advances, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park stands as a beacon of innovation and sustainability, embodying Dubai’s vision for a greener future and a significant reduction in carbon emissions.
