In a significant move to enhance urban living in Abu Dhabi, the Department of Municipalities and Transport has signed an agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This collaboration is aimed at harnessing research and artificial intelligence to create practical urban solutions that improve quality of life and facilitate the design of healthier, more comfortable streets and public spaces.
A Strategic Partnership Expands
The agreement was formalised during the inaugural day of the Life Quality and Investment Exhibition, “LIVEX 2026.” Fatima Al-Mutawwa, acting Executive Director of the Strategy Sector at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, and Carlo Ratti, Director of the Senseable City Lab at MIT, were the signatories of this pivotal partnership.
Advancing Urban Innovation
This alliance seeks to leverage cutting-edge research methodologies and technologies in order to address urban challenges effectively. By integrating AI and innovative design principles, the initiative aims not only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of public spaces but also to promote sustainable living practices within the emirate.
Officials emphasise that the collaboration with MIT reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to embracing advancements that can lead to a more prosperous and healthy urban environment for its residents.
