Amid Cheers and Saffron: The Camel Journey Lands in Dubai

With traditional chants and the scent of saffron, the twelfth edition of the camel journey concluded in Dubai, attracting 29 participants from 18 different nationalities. The journey lasted for 21 days, covering a massive distance of 1,050 kilometers across the vast deserts of the UAE, starting from the Al Sila area and reaching its final destination at the Heritage Village in Global Village. The camel journey reveals the beauty of Emirati cultural heritage and the importance of preserving it through a unique experience lived by the participants.

Challenges and Deep Meanings

Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmook, CEO of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival, emphasized that “the essence of the camel journey is reflected in its deep-rooted meanings based on commitment, cooperation, and patience.” He noted that the caravan faced numerous challenges, including rugged desert roads and fluctuating weather conditions that forced participants to extend their daily travel hours. He considered this journey a “great source of pride” as it reflects the center’s vision of preserving heritage.

The Value of Participation and Cultural Exchange

The paths of the journey echoed memories that reflect the relationship between humans and their environment. As bin Dalmook explained, “Reaching the designated stops often occurred after nightfall.” This experience serves as a genuine platform for transmitting Emirati heritage to the participants, who had the chance to immerse themselves in the details of desert life. He adds that the camel journey represents “a living cultural bridge connecting peoples,” enhancing values of coexistence and cooperation.

An Emotional Conclusion

The caravan arrived at the Heritage Village, adorned with flowers and the fragrance of incense and saffron, amidst a festive atmosphere welcoming the attendees. The closing ceremony honored the participants and awarded them certificates of appreciation, with the families of the participants joining in this impactful event, creating an atmosphere of love and familial bonds.

In his remarks, Dutch participant Morgan van Brink stated, “The journey was difficult at first, but it taught me the meaning of patience and building trust with the camels.” Meanwhile, Emirati Sultan Ali Al Razi said, “The camel journey gave me inner peace and an experience that cannot be measured by distance,” noting that living in the desert awakened in him a sense of the simplicity of life.

Enhancing Emirati Heritage

Bin Dalmook considered that “the camel journey formed a living school for getting to know camels closely, as they are a symbol of national heritage.” It revealed to participants the economic and moral value of these animals to their ancestors, strengthening the connection to heritage. This experience is not just a journey; it is a window into understanding the deep values linked to the roots of Emirati culture.

The camel journey reflects more than just an outing in the desert; it is a genuine experience that instills authentic values in current and future generations.
